2016 Growing Season Starts Now

We are excited about the 2016 growing season for our Green Path Veterans Farms project that starts this month.

The farm project supports veterans and helps our local economy become self-reliant by raising and distributing organic produce.

From the beginning, our goal was to employ and train veterans in local organic agricultural production and associated businesses. We are proud to announce that we have hired as a part-time project coordinator, Nadine Noky, an Iraq War vet.  Over time we expect to expand our operation so that we can hire a full-time executive director.

You can help us meet our goals:

First, you can donate to help the project. Again this year, we are participating in the Giving Challenge of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. The Giving Challenge starts September 20, 2016 at noon and continues for twenty-four hours. You can be the one who makes the difference with your donation on that day. Every amount from the smallest to the largest donation will be put to good use. Your donation can help buy everything from seeds and fertilizer to our own land.

Second, you can volunteer. We need volunteers for everything from light duty like watering to physical labor when we have work days. You can choose the tasks that fit you best. Best of all, only a few hours of your time can make a big difference.

We are now operating gardens at two locations, Orange Blossom Community Garden and Easter Seals of Southwest Florida where we are partnering with Easter Seals Academy Farms.

By joining with Green Path Veterans and Friends as a contributor or volunteer, you can be certain that you are making a positive contribution to our veterans and our communities.

Start the growing season right. Please attend our Harvest Moon Party on full moon, Friday, September 16, 2016 to see what we’re doing.  For details go to: Green Path Harvest Moon Party
